Hola Alberto. Do you film a food video every time you feel hungry? They make me hungry. I can get fairly good Mexican food in San Diego but it is either too far away from my neighborhood or too expensive. Are you avoiding too much temptation and therefore the gout? I think it is safer to be a broccoli in Mexico than a sheep, goat or cow : ). There is lots of delicious barbacoa, not so much broccoli. The outdoor market is like a giant swap meet here in the US. Big ones sell everything. When I retired I sold all of my big power tools and extension ladders but kept the smaller power tools and all of the hand tools, except those for masonry. No more concrete slabs, brick walls, tile work or plastering for me. Electrical, plumbing, painting or finish carpentry might be a possibility, at least for myself. Of course it's less work and more fun to watch your videos. I recently read that Sheinbaum plans to add some new passenger rail lines, including one from Pachuca. Yo acabo de ir el finde semana pasado,ya habia ido en 2 ocasiones anteriores, pero esta vez , me detuvieron los tránsitos, pero como todo estaba en regla, le buscaron, y dijeron que venia con aliento alcohólico, les dije me tome 2 cervezas, solo salí a buscar algo para cenar por que en mi hotel el servicio era hasta las 6 de la tarde, total que me detuvieron y querian $7500 para soltarme y soltar mi camioneta si ,no aceptaba me tenia que quedar hasta el lunes ,total que llego el médico y me aplicó la prueba,la verdad muy déspotas y prepotentes, jamás me dijeron cual fue el resultado, les pregunté y me dijeron ahorita te informan, yo solo exigía mis derechos, en fin que al final me sacaron $3500 para dejarme ir, pedí 2 hrs y la verdad jamas vuelvo a regresar a Tuxpan, por este hecho,por todo lo demas super bien la comida,la gente todo bien !!! Pero por culpa de las autoridades de esta ocasión no me dieron ganas de regresar

Hola Alberto. Interesting video. The visitors were packed into the market like sardines in a can. This charming colonial town is crowded enough even when there isn't a feria. If one hates crowds this might be a good time to visit almost anywhere else in the state of Hidalgo or adjacent parts of the state of Mexico. Lots of silver. Were many of the dealers from Taxco? Mexico has always had some silver, and also gold, jewelry manufacturing, but about a century ago, a bit less actually, an architect from the US arrived in Taxco and not only led a movement to preserve the colonial era architecture, he also revived the silver jewelry industry and created an international reputation for it. His name was William Spratling. Many of the people making silver jewelry today are two to five generations from the artisans who learned their craft while working for Spratling. Stainless steel jewelry!? What next? It's harder to work than silver, but it is not likely to tarnish. I suspect Spratling is rolling in his grave at the thought. How much comes from China? At least the mole came from Mexico. A similar thing occured in Tonala and Tlaquepaque, when Jorge Wilmot and a friend arrived from the US and helped to revive the ceramic industry in those towns. I think it is interesting that it sometimes takes the eyes of an outsider to appreciate what Mexico's artisans are capable of producing and to help revive a dying craft. Most of the Taxco silver and Tlaquepaque ceramics are well made but aimed at tourists, but there are also some truly gifted artists at work for those that can afford it. When I was in Chiapas in 1974 the art of weaving some of the village huipils was all but dead. I spent a couple of days with Walter F Morris Jr. (a student from the US who was studying the symbolism of the designs used in the weaving). Alarmed at the loss of the weaving tradition in Chiapas he worked with some of the best Tzotzil and Tzeltal weavers (especially those from San Andres and Tenejapa) to establish a weaving co-op (Sna Jolobil) to teach traditional weaving techniques and provide an income to the Indian women in the highlands. Before Walter died he wrote at least a half dozen books on the weaving and textiles in Chiapas. There is a saying, "Poor Mexico, so close to the United States, so far from God." It hasn't always been bad news, and it certainly made it easy for me to visit Mexico many times. Hola to Adriana. Stay well.

Hola Alberto. An excellent food video. I wonder if you shouldn't move to Veracruz, where the specialty is fish. So much irresistible barbacoa can't be good for your gout. I don't know how, after 8-10 samplings of barbacoa, anyone could fairly judge yet another helping or find room for more barbacoa. I don't care how delicious it is. Wait, I just remembered Joey Chestnut, the man who ate 78 hot dogs in 10 minutes. OK, I guess it is possible. I wonder how the judges avoid being prejudiced by knowing who cooked each dish. Seems like it would be fairer to have one person not involved in the cooking present the food. If I were the judge, unless something was really much better than everything else, I might give the prizes to the three prettiest women ; ). In fact, I wonder if being able to talk to and photograph lots of beautiful women isn't an important incentive for filming all of your great videos : ). Well, you're married to Adriana, so maybe not. Hola Alberto. Very informative. One can certainly appreciate how much work and time is involved in making barbacoa estilo Hidalgo. I'm not anywhere near ready to compete with these experts but I think if I was in the wilderness I could now barbecue anything I could catch. My brother spent 2-3 years in Hawaii and learned to barbecue pigs using a similar method. Luaus are an important tradition in the islands. Your video convinced me of one more thing. Hola Alberto. What a frustrating and humbling sport. I guess the majority of the participants learn to deal with disappoint and humility. And before the race is won everyone can have fun imagining what they will do with $3000 pesos. Alas only a few will fulfill their dream. You did a good job of filming this contest, and showing how exhausting it is. Probably easier at sea level. I suspect that the Tarahumara, who traditionally run everywhere since they didn't have any roads, would run away with this contest. People rarely have a reason to run very much anymore. I certainly don't, although at one time I liked to run, and after high school I ran a 4:50 mile. Most people will never run a 6:00 minute mile, but 4:50 is still at least a minute slower than the world record. Good job as usual. Thank you. Hola to Adrianna. Stay well.
